Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. As a person with Irish origins, who was surrounded her by talented parents and family members, this came naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and had shares in the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons placed second from a family of six FitzSimons. Maureen was a great athlete and participated in rough, competitive sports when she was a young. Her natural ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in sports. She won almost all Feis Award for Theater and Drama which her nation had to give. At the age of 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and let her live her dreams of classical theater and singing opera.
